There have probably always been people who come up with such ideas, but with the rise of social media, almost everyone is able to share and spread such false information. This phenomenon not only misleads millions of people; it creates confusion that causes great division in our democracy. What constitutes a fact? Can we trust the government? Are those of different political ideologies supporters of evil acts against humanity? People are willing to resort to violence to fight against the people that conspiracy theories pin as the enemy.
